Well ex husband isn't a bad dad. But there are a lot of things I DONT like about him. Which really most of the time doesn't effect anything anyway so no big deal.<br />
I get My Little Man 1 weekend a month, 1 not 2 or more. Ex husband gets him 3 a month. Also 1 day where if My Little Man were in public school he would get dropped off by ex husband and picked up and in the evening get dropped off back at home.<br />
But then we don't public school. SO initially I sent school work to be completed at ex husbands house. NOPE, that didn't happen. Then after a month or 2, I complained and make up scripted lesson plans. NOPE I complained and would call up ex husbands wife to explain the lessons and when ex husband came to pick up My Little Man I would go over then with him. Ex husband was uninterested. Less than half of the school work would get done. Finally about 4 months ago he says "What time do you usually eat lunch?" "About 1" "How about I pick him up at that time so you can do most of his school work on that Saturday before." "OK"<br />
He said he would do the rest of the work with him, did he? NOPE But he does pick him up at 1 on that 1 Saturday a month.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://encrypted-tbn2.google.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSiNEcImYyVIZCBDra0sYbJpdWZZnfNmGDa0C-TbzQl-XoS9wv_" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://encrypted-tbn2.google.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSiNEcImYyVIZCBDra0sYbJpdWZZnfNmGDa0C-TbzQl-XoS9wv_" /></a></div>
When I try talking to him about what we are doing for school he is inattentive and uninterested. And YET!, he complains because he thinks we are using that Saturday as a play day. He all but says I am stealing his time. >< If he would participate in My Little Man's education he would know why we do what we do. My choices in educating My Little Man are not about what ex husband likes or dislikes. They are about what is best both long and short term for My Little Man.<br />
<br />
Inshallah 1 thing is for sure, I will not apologize for my choices for My Little Man's education. I do not have to prove to his dad, anything.<br />
<br />
On top of all this he chooses to confront me in a hostile way in front of My Little Man, at a public event, outside in a crowd, with my husband dumb founded.<br />
<br />
I stood there thinking "You suck. I am not going to argue. You suck. I am not going to argue. You suck. I am not going to argue. You suck. I am not going to argue. ...."<br />
<br />
His pupils were tiny.<br />
<br />
Over the past year or two he has been increasingly tactless and emotional when confronting issues in regards to My Little Man. I don't know what his problem is, nor do I care. </div>ummcarterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03091889634296286578noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9098005625525056972.post-80137816248817886352012-05-28T14:52:00.001-06:002012-05-28T14:52:47.052-06:00What We're Up To Today<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">
We practiced math facts, studied sabr and wrote about Nuh. Oh and My Little Man is doing a half day of fasting mashallah.</div>ummcarterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03091889634296286578noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9098005625525056972.post-56091122877897676072012-05-08T15:17:00.001-06:002014-01-01T00:30:58.312-07:00So whats the plan?<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">
Hmmm<br />
I need to<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.celebrationideasonline.com/images/text_books.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.celebrationideasonline.com/images/text_books.jpg" /></a></div>
<ul style="text-align: left;">
<li>decide what I will use for IS curriculum</li>
<li>decide if I will use a reading text book or not and if not do I want to use Islamic books as a main text? Do I want to use anything as a main text?</li>
<li>make a pacing guide for myself including all subjects</li>
<li>coordinate all the materials</li>
</ul>
<br />
<br /></div>
ummcarterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03091889634296286578noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9098005625525056972.post-20376898502981788472012-05-08T15:10:00.002-06:002014-01-01T00:30:32.727-07:00Here we go again<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">
<div style="text-align: left;">
Well I have had a month off and am read to prepare for next school year inshallah. This time I want to try to coorinate all the curriculum. So in Islamic Studies he might be learning about Al Qadr and in Arabic he might learn related words. In math the problem of the day might be Zain said Alhumdulillah 3 times for each finger on his right hand, then he did it again. How could you figure out how many times he said it? In science he might learn about the life cycle and his spelling words might be whatever, befalls, yourself, something, therefore, indicates, preordained, knowledge, somewhere, anyhow, certainty, preceded. He might have writing asignments like Write a paragraph telling about Al Qadr. Write advise to someone who has to move far from their friends. Finish the story Ahmed won a swim pass. He loved swimming so he told all of his friends over and over about it. All his friends were getting jealous and angry except Bilal. Ahmed's friend Bilal won a bike. Bilal.....</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
For PE that week maybe My Little Man would do things like jumping jacks while reciting an ayah pertaining to the Qadr of Allah.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Anyway thats what I would like to do, inshallah. </div>
<br /></div>

We took a break then began a much more relaxed approach. Starting in May our area has loads of activities for kids to do many for free. </div>

Well English took longer than i wanted but alhumdulillah we are finished on time! Well we are finishing on time that is. I wanted to be done with English by lunch. Out normal lunch time is in 15 minutes and he is writing a sentence in his journal Then we will do a quick wrap up and have lunch. Then some math and science and if we have time Arabic or IS.<br />

Inshallah I <i>do</i> think next week we will be able to have English and math or science done by lunch each day. This I like. </div>

He read Mole and Baby Bird and in his journal I asked him to write about whether or not he would want a pet for a bird and why. This was his response LOL.<br />

So inshallah I think that we will be more efficient with our English curriculum in another week or two. The science used to take a long time until I got a good enough feel for it that I always was ready. The math is in a very regular format so it is easy to be prepared for. None the less I think, inshallah I will write out(copy) the lesson plans for each day in math and English so I can be prepared and because the amoeba that was My Little Man's computer has become a vegetable, lol (the Pentium 4 processor is broken).<br />
The way our day has been going<br />
Wake dress teeth<br />
eat read the Morning Warm Up and start<br />
Break and back to work<br />
Lunch and small break then back to finish up English<br />
break, then math,<br />
long break then science<br />
I am hoping that by next week we will be used to the new curriculum enough to get to math by lunch and may be even finished with it by lunch. </div>

Alhumdulillah sometimes things are hectic and you pull out your hair and sometimes things are hectic and you just are thankful. Because of a multitude of reasons life was at a very slow pace for a long time and now with having a student to tutor and a change in our curriculum, plus have the blessing of regular visitors, along with some other reasons life is busy again. Its nice having all this going on. I thank Allah. </div>
ummcarterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03091889634296286578noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9098005625525056972.post-15582607407486685082012-03-06T00:47:00.000-07:002012-03-06T00:47:53.469-07:00Hmph<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">Well My Little Man was <i>supposed</i> to get 1 day's worth of school work over the <u style="background-color: yellow; color: #20124d;"><b>3</b></u> days at his dad's house. He did approximately 1/4th of his English lesson and that's <i>it!</i><br />
If he went to public school and needed to do 1 days worth of work at his dad's house each month it would get done. But nope.......ARG! drives me nuts!<br />
Well Bob did apologise but this is absolutely not abnormal. <br />
Bob offered to have Carter stay until lunch on Saturdays of the weekend My Little Man stays late so that he can get the work done for the most part at my house. I am ok with that except it means the poor guy will have school 6 days in a row the one week of the month then 4 the following week.<br />
Oh well at least then I know he will get a fair amount done the one day. Alhumdullilah. Well My Little Man got home at a little past 7 this evening and we started his school work at 8ish so he is wrapping up the last thing and its 12:30. We skipped 1 or 2 things and saved his math practice pages for tomorrow. <br />
I really don't see what the problem is. I send all the lesson plans, printed out and customised for My Little Man. I print off all the materials necessary. I Send all the counters and manipulatives. I go over what the lessons will be with My Little Man the day before hand. I even go through the lessons with Bob before he leaves with My Little Man for the weekend. I am available to help.<br />
I have suggested that My Little Man get dropped off in the morning for schooling and picked up afterward but somehow that offer is rejected each and every time.<br />
I think Bob really just isn't thinking of My Little Man's needs at all. He thinks i am trying to steal his time but my son needs an education and he just doesn't respect me. Grr.</div>ummcarterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03091889634296286578noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9098005625525056972.post-75119749211256788592012-03-05T17:51:00.000-07:002012-03-05T17:51:23.680-07:00Just finished My First Tutoring Session with Iron Man<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">I just finished my first paid tutoring session! I assessed his attitude towards reading and I I tested him for fluency. He scored 18wcpm, very low but he could very easily bring that up I feel. I also asses how he processes things.<br />
I <i>think</i> he is mostly a visual learner, but physically doing something nearly always helps a child, or person reinforce a concept. <br />
For the next session I think I would like to start working on ck and short a. Maybe a game? Inshallah</div>ummcarterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03091889634296286578noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9098005625525056972.post-48025398362435869502012-02-27T17:03:00.000-07:002012-02-27T17:03:23.920-07:00What we're learning<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">This weekend I was at the computer from the time I woke until very early morning making plans for school.<br />
This week we are learning about estimating using groups of 10 as a base, and using data from a graph. We are learning about the sufixes -ly, -ful, -er and -or, pronouns, the main idea and writing a report. We are wraping up a chapter on energy in science. In IS we are learning about Nuh and in Arabic working on building vocabulary and reading fluency.<br />
<br />
The following was my plans for English today (They came from Reading Street 2007)<br />
<style type="text/css">
<!--
@page { margin: 0.79in }
P { margin-bottom: 0.08in }

</style> <br />
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">ENGLISH</div><ol><li><div style="margin-bottom: 0in;"><span style="color: black;">People have different responsibilities at home and out of the home. (helping with the dishes, feeding and caring for pets, completing schoolwork, respecting others) P</span>eople have responsibilities to others in the community (being kind, taking care of friendships, keeping the town and streets safe and clean) Many people in our community are responsible for taking care of others (firefighters, nurses, veterinarians, teachers, police officers, mail carriers)</div></li>

<li><div style="margin-bottom: 0in;"><span style="color: black;">Now we will write and read a message and discuss it.</span></div></li>
<li><div style="margin-bottom: 0in;"><span style="color: #00dcff;">Turn on your computer</span></div></li>
<li><div style="margin-bottom: 0in;"><span style="color: #00dcff;">Open file named “School”, then “Open 1st” then open the day's Morning Warm Up. <span style="color: black;">(On Monday it would be “1 Monday.png”.)</span></span></div></li>
<li><div style="margin-bottom: 0in;"><span style="color: #00dcff;">Read the Warm Up and think about it. </span><span style="color: black;">Did </span><i><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-style: normal;">Jeremy Joe </span></span></i><span style="color: black;">do a good job helping Smiffy Blue in </span><span style="color: black;"><i>Smiffy Blue Ace Crime Detective</i></span><span style="color: black;">? <li><div style="margin-bottom: 0in;"><span style="color: #00dcff;">Read the page and when ever you complete an activity put an X next to the activity.</span></div></li>
<li><div style="margin-bottom: 0in;"><span style="color: #00dcff;">Copy the Morning Warm Up of the day into your note book with nice handwriting.</span></div></li>
<li><div style="margin-bottom: 0in;"><span style="color: #00dcff;"><span style="color: black;">Now we are going to sing a song about firefighters working as a team.</span> Turn the page in the grey notebook. </span> </div></li>
<li><div style="margin-bottom: 0in;"><span style="color: black;">Before we sing the song I want to tell you about some a group of words that your book calls Amazing Words. He still needs to do reading, writing and Arabic. For reading I think I am going to have him work on a Science reader called Ships and Boats because it relates to energy, which we are learning about in science and for writing do the next section in his book about prophet Nuh, peace be upon him. For Arabic I think I will have him read a book, inshallah. </div>ummcarterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03091889634296286578noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9098005625525056972.post-80293294489876156352012-02-13T15:05:00.000-07:002012-02-13T15:05:08.412-07:00Update<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">My Little Man did his math in good time today. He will do a bit of Arabic and be done for the day, inshallah. </div>ummcarterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03091889634296286578noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9098005625525056972.post-39979352688222622792012-02-01T17:00:00.000-07:002012-02-01T17:00:28.269-07:00Things have been in an uproar<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">Dispite all the crazyness we have managed to do Math, reading and writing daily and some days Arabic, Quran or science. My son is really enjoying the book The Little Prince. I was surprised he didn't struggle at all. He made a little poster with about what he has read so far. As always my sons illustrations are very active ones. </div>ummcarterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03091889634296286578noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9098005625525056972.post-47427902988368890422012-01-17T23:09:00.000-07:002012-01-17T23:09:49.703-07:00Today<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">My Little Man started learning officially to tell time and we spent a long time working on that. He then reviewed phonics. This evening we learned about String Theory and I think what he got out of it the most was that all matter is made up of smaller and smaller parts.<br />
He did some reading before he went to play with B and also did chores. It was a good day. </div>ummcarterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03091889634296286578noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9098005625525056972.post-73260946695735644152012-01-17T23:05:00.002-07:002012-01-17T23:06:05.722-07:00From String Theory to Alien Gore<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">I wanted to watch something educational....well I wanted to watch something while we ate dinner, educational was a perk. Anyway, I went to the PBS site and picked a full episode of NOVA something Cosmos: String Theory.<br />
I found it incredibly interesting. My son liked it but of course didn't understand a lot of it so I followed it up with a couple quick videos explaining it from youtube. Then I tried explaining it. Personally I think it makes a lot more sense than quantum theory but that's besides the point.<br />
A little bit later my son decided to get out his molecular model kit. I joined him and made a dodecahedron and my son suggested it was Doctor Who's new Tardis. Then that it was the doctor.<br />
I then joined a larger second one to it. I realised it looked like a snow man and started belting out Frosty the Snowman in an obnoxious voice. My son made a small companion for it and we added hair to <i>her</i>, the double dodecahedron figure, ears and a hat before she was consumed by the companion. <br />
So silly!</div>ummcarterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03091889634296286578noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9098005625525056972.post-15703144445303534942011-12-19T14:21:00.001-07:002011-12-19T14:27:41.820-07:00So Far Today<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">So far today we have learned lots about bones, made a little field trip to the high school up the street to see a model skeleton. Walked a mile round trip to the grocery store, on the way back My Little Man carried a gallon of milk. And he has just pulled out a math book to work on some math. We spent a LOT of time on bones.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.wpclipart.com/medical/bones/skeletons/appendicular_skeleton_diagram.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://www.wpclipart.com/medical/bones/skeletons/appendicular_skeleton_diagram.png" width="173" /></a></div>It turns out the local high school has college accredited premed classes. Plus they can leave with a CNA. Thats good to know. Anyway who knows what he'll want to study when we get that far.<br />
<br />
PS We learned about the water cycle and about what Allah reveled in the Quran about water and rain. </div>ummcarterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03091889634296286578noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9098005625525056972.post-981234091321023852011-12-16T13:45:00.000-07:002011-12-16T13:45:20.458-07:00Mosaics<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">Well today we are learning about mosaics. I read a bit of information from the web to him about mosaics. Then he cut some construction paper into bits and started gluing them on to a paper. While he worked on that we watched these videos<br />
<br />
<br />
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/aB_TBmP_JgM" width="420"></iframe><br />
<iframe frameborder="0" height="276" src="http://www.dailymotion.com/embed/video/x8yaup" width="480"></iframe><br />
<br />
<iframe frameborder="0" height="276" src="http://www.dailymotion.com/embed/video/x8yaup" width="480"></iframe><br />
<a href="http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x8yaup_zillij-tiles-moorish-tile-moroccan_creation" target="_blank">Zillij tiles: Moorish tile - Moroccan tiles -...</a> <i>by <a href="http://www.dailymotion.com/sttropezboutiquellc" target="_blank">sttropezboutiquellc</a></i><br />
and he invited me to help him so I helped fill in some of the gaps. He just asked for a book about mosaics and if we had a car I would take him to get one at the library. Its just too cold for me.<br />
I tried to explain that mosaics usually have patterns. I think after we eat lunch we will use pattern blocks. <br />
<br />
</div>ummcarterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03091889634296286578noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9098005625525056972.post-40460422682911175012011-12-15T14:26:00.001-07:002011-12-15T14:28:17.234-07:00What We've Been Up To<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">Right now My Little Man is using a calculator to create addition problems and then make up a math story involving the equation.<br />
He worked on a Boating Safety booklet, reviewed Arabic letters and focused on dthal, thought up and started a science experiment to see if he could get too hot by drinking hot water with a straw so he could go outside with out a coat and not get cold. Next, inshallah he is going to read and test himself on comprehension. When he read a work he didn't know he wrote it down and studied it so he would recognize it in the future.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Dyvx67qa-z8/TQHb9UmbWmI/AAAAAAAAB7E/m990_kTA0q0/clip_image002_thumb%5B1%5D.jpg?imgmax=800" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Dyvx67qa-z8/TQHb9UmbWmI/AAAAAAAAB7E/m990_kTA0q0/clip_image002_thumb%5B1%5D.jpg?imgmax=800" /></a></div><br />
Oh when he was working on his dthal page he started experimenting with mixing colors. So lets see thats Arabic, art, science, math, vocabulary in English, and is getting a book now for reading. 4 hours of school work and no problems other than the occasional "Enough sound effects i can't concentrate!" coming from my end. not bad</div>ummcarterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03091889634296286578noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9098005625525056972.post-75302413545703348002011-12-02T21:54:00.000-07:002011-12-02T21:54:05.356-07:00K, we're being a little lame today<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">K, we're being a little lame today. My son worked on his math facts but, while he is currently <i>supposed to </i>be reading he is making sound effects. Along the lines of....well you just have to hear them LOL. Little boys!<br />
I think I am going to ask him to do his writing and <strike>give up</strike> finish early today, LOL. </div>ummcarterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03091889634296286578noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9098005625525056972.post-68917914728641369532011-12-02T21:51:00.000-07:002011-12-02T21:51:40.560-07:00WOW I have 3 Followers!<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://yang-sheng.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/Happy-star.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://yang-sheng.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/Happy-star.gif" /></a></div>WOW I have 3 Followers! He he! So Cool! Mashallah. Anyway HI!</div>ummcarterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03091889634296286578noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9098005625525056972.post-91264326974775589642011-12-02T01:23:00.000-07:002011-12-02T01:23:46.071-07:00A Blustery Day<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">Today we had a wind storm.My mom, who lives 21+ hours drive away heard about it on the news. This tells you about the wind. So how did we spend our day?<br />
Well we woke to the power being off and since our furnace uses electricity to control the gas, we had no heat. I light both the fireplaces and started some water boiling on the one with "logs". I kept the house pretty warm this way. <br />
Our neighbor friends came by and warmed up a bit then I took a couple with My Little Man and I to run some erands.<br />
B is not currently on his ADHD medication and so B would get My Little Man going and the two of them drove me CRAZY at the store! lol. I do not know <i>what</i> I was thinking when I offered to take him LOL. Well I brought the kids back put away groceries, brought A from the family with My Little Man and I and we finished off our grocery shopping and went to Walmart. (I hate that I shop at Walmart)<br />
When we finaly came home, after Arbys for lunch, I gave A and MLM (My Little Man) a banana and saw that the power was finally back on.<br />
MLM reluctantly started on school work for the day and I kept an eye on MLM and A. Eventaully A went home and I made dinner. MLM still didn't do Arabic but completed all other tasks. <br />
I am TIRED and MLM is finally in bed. I think he fell asleep in less than 5 minutes.</div>ummcarterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03091889634296286578noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9098005625525056972.post-20687307205859084252011-11-30T22:05:00.000-07:002011-11-30T22:05:26.258-07:00A Laid Back Day<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">Well today My Little Man did some reading in McGuffey's Eclectic Primer and the the cursive copy work. He couldn't remember how to make a cursive letter g so he got out his cursive writing book and taught himself the g. Then he decided to write a couple of sentences. Oh I forgot, before that he was working on a Road to Writing book called Animal Crackers. He draws pictures and writes in the details of the book. I had told him pick something to do from a certain book shelf. He also started a science experiment to make salt crystals. He is reading Frankenstein, it was adapted for children at about a 3rd grade reading level. We are reading the Wizard of Oz together. Also My Little Man timed himself going over his +0 +1 and +2 facts.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div>I am going to try to get him to do something from a book called <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Super-Fun-One-Solo-Activities/dp/0836221613" target="_blank">Super Fun For One: 366 Solo Activities for Kids by Patricia Gordon and Reed C. Snow. </a>I just showed him the book and he is looking for something to do from the book. <br />
Later I will have him do an Arabic lesson from the web and a little bit from How We Use Numbers.<br />
<br />
